Product Description The Winix plasma wave air cleaner model 5300 features 3 stages of air cleaning to capture and neutralize a broad range of indoor pollutants quietly and efficiently. The hepa filter captures 99.97-percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns in size, the carbon pre-filter absorbs odors and voc's (volatile organic chemicals), and the plasma wave plasma generator attacks airborne pollutants at the molecular level. A built-in air quality sensor provides "set-and-forget" operation by adjusting the fan speed automatically. Suitable for very large rooms: clean air delivery rate of more than 280-square-feet.

Works well excellent value August 20, 2010 D. Mello 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I did a lot of reading and spec comparisons between the various air purifiers out there. This one has a value that is hard to beat at this price point. The cost/benefit ratio curve skews quite a bit beyond this. If you have a large budget it might be worth it, but for me I felt if necessary I could buy more of these if I needed more coverage and still come in under what it would cost to buy one of the more expensive purifiers out there. I purchased one to help with dust and cat allergies in the bedroom and it has definitely helped. I wake up less congested. As previous reviewers have stated on low and sleep mode the unit is extremely quiet. I sleep with it a ~foot away from me without being disturbed. The filters are easy to get at and the carbon filters are disposable. You can also change the filter to the one from the 9000 as mentioned elsewhere (I confirmed with their customer service) if you prefer. I should mention that I got a better deal elsewhere for this unit so unfortunately I didn't get it from Amazon this time, but I'll probably be getting my filters here.
30 days, so far very pleased... July 27, 2010 Jeeves (Austin, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Quiet and functional air cleaner, does what it says. We have it in our master bedroom, we leave it on 24x7 to give my asthmatic wife some relief. When I get up in the morning, the air quality sensor picks up the soap scent during my shower, my aftershave scent, etc. and kicks the speed up off quiet mode until the air is clean again, then automatically gears the speed back down. It was very easy to setup, has been reliable, and just runs and does its thing. I am happy with my purchase, I may buy another.
Great Product-Winix PlasmaWave July 15, 2010 Bobbi This is a fantstic product-I have asthma and also sinus problems plus I have 2 pups that sleep on a couch next to my bed. I used to wake up every morning coughing and sneezing-not anymore. The PlasmaWave automatically senses the air and runs on Turbo speed until the offending allergen or odor is gone and it then reduces fan speed to keep air quality at an acceptable level. I love it. It also makes a great white noise supplier drowning out sounds of traffic or people talking. I could not be more pleased with my purchase!
Winix Plasmawave 5300 a good decision June 29, 2010 DudeFromChicago 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this thing sight unseen, but after doing a lot of research online. I am very impressed with this. I'd never go back to Honeywell generic store products. I was really in the market for something with a UV light, but I didn't want to spend more than 250 and I didn't want something with 6 or so different technologies that performed poorly at everything. I reasoned that the three things I wanted was: good at cleaning smell from the air, HEPA to absorb airborne stuff like germs/ bacteria, and the ionic part for killing bacteria. THe UV light is something I want also, but I reasoned that I can buy a much better one that connects into the HVAC duct work. Anyway, I'm used to running a Honeywell 24x7. I actually liked the background noise when I sleep. This thing is real quiet unless it detects odor/ air quality. It shows yo with color lights and it automatically regulates the fan speed. Pretty nice. Kinda wish I had 2, one for the front room and one for the bedroom. Turbo mode is powerful and very similar to running Honeywell on full blast. The honeywell I used to have pointed the airflow down at the dirty carpet whereas this thing points the airflow up and at an angle. Pretty nice. No complaints.
quiet, works well! June 27, 2010 Having a house with a dog, 2 cats, and an open floor plan, we needed something for odor control and allergen control. This does both well. The fan is nicely quiet at a working level. Since it has a sensor and can be set on automatic, it is very user friendly.
